While everyone tells you to "enjoy this time", spending your days at home with a baby can feel surprisingly isolating. You may love your baby deeply and still wonder: What should we actually do all day? Am I giving them enough? How can I support their development? And where are all the other mums?

That’s exactly why we created Sensory for Babies.

Since 2020, Academicus has been bringing babies and caregivers together for developmentally meaningful classes in the heart of Zurich. Thousands of happy babies have explored, moved, listened, communicated and connected through our programme - while their grown-ups have gained confidence, practical ideas and, often, lifelong friendships.

One mum told us:

More than a baby activity

Sensory for Babies is not simply something to fill an hour in your week.

It is an opportunity to connect with your baby, support their developing brain and body, and meet other parents who are right there with you.

Each class combines music, movement, sensory exploration, language, social interaction and playful discovery, carefully designed around the developmental needs of babies aged 3–12 months.

Our programme is based on Montessori principles and current understanding of early childhood development, giving your baby rich opportunities to explore their environment while giving you simple, meaningful activities you can continue at home.

Through songs, movement, objects, textures, sounds and interactive play, your baby is building foundations for:

Language development - listening, communication and early language skills
Movement - opportunities to practise coordination and gross and fine motor skills
Sensory development - exploring the world through sight, sound, touch and movement
Connection - strengthening the bond between baby and caregiver through responsive interaction
Confidence and curiosity - giving babies the freedom to explore at their own pace
Your confidence as a parent - learning what your baby is capable of and how to support them

And perhaps just as importantly, you don't have to do motherhood alone.

Our small-group classes create a warm, welcoming space where you can meet other international families in Zurich, share the highs and lows of life with a baby, and watch your little one discover the world alongside new friends.

Need to Know:

Important note:

We encourage to sign up for a mini-term. Why? To help our babies thrive!

💚 Babies need a routine to to feel comfortable in their surroundings. Once they feel safe, they blossom and start to explore on their own terms.

💚 Babies learn through repetition, so to see the results from these classes: our children opening up, gaining confidence and learning language, fine and gross motor skills, they need to be exposed to a regular learning environment

💚 Babies’ social skills flourish, when they remember and are familiar with the physical and human environment. When they feel safe, their "reptilian brain" is no longer in "Fight, flight or freeze" mode and our children confidently participate in the lesson and interact with their new friends

💚 We are here to build a strong community: expose our children to their first friends, but also to get to know other like-minded parents, who want to boost their children's development.

Tuition Fees:

Trial Class - 40CHF

Mini terms of 1 day a week (Tue):

35CHF x number of classes within the term (can be adjusted according to starting date).

Only limited number of term spots available with this price.

Make-up classes, in case of absence, are available within the mini term you have signed up for. You can make-up the classes during a Saturday class.

Absences must be communicated to the office, to be able to organise the make up class.

Twins pay only once!

Provided there is availability, after your trial class, the teacher will reach out to you via email to inquire if you would like to sign up for a mini-term.

Rolling signup possible, price is then adjusted according to the date of joining classes (for term price to apply, min of 5 classes can be permitted).

School Terms:

Our schedule & holidays follow the Zurich Public School Calendar and our school year is divided into 5 terms. There are no Sensory for Babies classes taking place during the Zurich School Holidays.
